BND works with the Legislature to determine the portion of the earnings dividend that is designated to the General Fund. The first transfer was made in 1945 for $1,724. Since then, BND’s earnings have contributed more than $892 million to the General Fund and other funds.
State agencies deposit their funds at BND per North Dakota Century Code. When special needs arise, BND will lend money to support their needs. The Bank also provides the credit card services for the State.
In addition to agriculture, commercial and student loan programs, BND administers more than $1 billion in legislative-directed loan programs. These loans assist with critical infrastructure needs, school construction, medical facilities, water projects, the LIFT fund, Western Area Water Supply Project (WAWSP), State Water – Resources Trust Fund, Agriculture Diversification and Development Fund and addiction counselor internships.
