There are five loan categories at BND:
- Business Loans fund economic development opportunities. The Legislature appropriates funds for several of the loan programs and BND utilizes a portion of its profits to fund the others.
- Agriculture Loans finance new and established agriculture producers. As with business loans, the Legislature appropriates funds for several of the loan programs while BND utilizes a portion of its profits to fund others.
- Student Loans fill the postsecondary education funding gaps when federal loans, scholarships, grants and savings don’t cover the cost of education.
- Legislative-Directed Loan Programs are created by the Legislature or the Industrial Commission and administered by Bank of North Dakota.
- Disaster Relief Loans are created for specific events impacting North Dakotans related to weather or health emergencies that impact the economic well-being.
